A point against second placed Swansea City means the Seasiders go into their game against TNS with the upper hand, as both sides go head-to-head for the chance of playing top half football in Phase Two of the Genero Adran Premier season. (Photo by Sam Eaden/FAW) Niamh Duggan’s brilliant free kick at Llandarcy Academy of Sport was enough to ensure Aber took a point away from South Wales, with a superior goal difference meaning they have the advantage ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
Aber face a TNS side who have been on a difficult run of late, having lost all four of their last four games. However, it will be no easy task if Aber are to claim that top four spot at the weekend. The Seasiders have lost four of their last six meetings with Sunday’s visitors, with just one victory to their name. What goes in favour of Aber in terms of recent history is their home form against TNS. Their last meeting with The New Saints at Park Avenue finished in a 3-3 draw back in December 2022. Elin Jones, Gwenllian Jones and Tania Wylde were the scorers that day, as Aber came back from three goals down to claim a point in the 2022/23 season. Star player Caitlin Chapman scored a brace on that day for TNS, and she will be key to any success The Saints have on Sunday. Chapman has 14 goal contributions in 13 games this season, once again showing her quality in the Genero Adran Premier. She is the leagues’ fourth top scorer, and her seven assists to her name rank her top of the pile for setting up goals in Wales’ top flight. With TNS having scored the most outside the top three and Aberystwyth conceding the least, it is set up to be a close encounter at Park Avenue. The visitors need a win to claim top four, with Aberystwyth just needing a point, if not a win, to complete a brilliant phase one for the Seasiders. Thoughts of the skipper - Amy Jenkins Aber Town Captain Amy Jenkins spoke to the Cambrian News in her weekly “Captains Notebook” ahead of the TNS game. Speaking on the Swansea City draw, Amy said: “The girls never fail to amaze me. With a squad of an average age of 19, we stopped Swansea City from getting their seventh straight win.” Sunday’s draw means Aber go into this weekend’s game just needing a point to claim top four, against the side directly below them in the Genero Adran Premier. Jenkins to the Cambrian News on TNS: “It’s winner-takes-all. Whoever wins will be guaranteed a minimum fourth-place finish. Please come and back the girls. We heard you out there on Thursday night (against Cardiff Met) and look at the difference it made.We know the town and the community are behind their Aber Town Women. We need your support now more than ever.” Match Sponsor The sponsors for Sunday’s game against The New Saints are Aberystwyth-based pub, The Starling Cloud.
