The first phase of this season’s JD Cymru Premier draws to a close this Saturday, as Barry Town United visit Ceredigion for a 5.15pm kick-off.
Last Friday’s excellent 1-0 victory over Colwyn Bay, coupled with the point gained at home to Haverfordwest the previous Saturday, has seen Aber climb out of the bottom two and with both these results coming at home, the Green Army have plenty of reasons for optimism ahead of this match. It has been a busy start to January for Town gaffer Anthony Williams; with Shaun Cavanagh and Zac Hartley arriving before last Friday’s match and Jonathan Evans returning this week. Owen Taylor has also departed Aberystwyth University Park Avenue, whilst Luca Hogan and Harry Owen have been recalled by their parent club Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Saturday’s visitors, Barry Town United, are in their first season back in the JD Cymru Premier, having been relegated back in 2022 before securing an immediate return from the JD Cymru South last year. They have so far accumulated 20 points from 21 games thanks to 5 wins and 5 draws. Ollie Hulbert is their top scorer with 9 goals in 2023/24, whilst Kayne McLaggon has netted 5 times. Sam Snaith and Harrison Bright have netted twice each, whilst Ben Blythe also has two goals to his name following last week’s victory over Newtown.
There have been two meetings between these sides so far this season, with Aber coming out on top in both. Goals from Billy Kirkman and Alex Darlington secured a 2-1 win at Jenner Park in the Nathaniel MG Cup back in August, whilst a last-minute Mark Cadwallader goal secured a 1-0 victory in the reverse league game in November.
Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue for this season are set at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, £2 for Secondary School age kids, and Primary School and younger are free. Come join us as the Black and Greens look to end Phase One on a high!
