Aberystwyth Town start their competitive fixtures for 2023/24 this Saturday, with a visit to Jenner Park – home of 2023 JD Cymru South Champions Barry Town United.

Few will forget Aber’s last visit to this venue in April 2022, when a 2nd minute Steff Davies header secured a 1-0 victory and ensured Aber stretched their unbroken membership of the Cymru Premier into a then 31st season.
 
This Saturday’s hosts dropped into the JD Cymru South at the end of that season but returned to the top level at the first time of asking, following a dominant season last time out. Led first by long-serving Manager Gavin Chesterfield, and then Lee Kendall, Barry won 25 out of their 30 league matches and finished 16 points clear of their nearest challengers, Llanelli Town.
 
Kendall has since stepped down and Head of Coaching Damian Flynn is currently leading the team, as the club go through the recruitment process for a new Manager.
 
There will be a number of familiar faces in the yellow & blue of Barry this weekend. Jamie Veale, who spent two years in Black & Green from 2020-22 is their major summer signing, joining from Haverfordwest County. Rhys Davies, who spent the same two seasons at Park Avenue, is in his 2nd season at Jenner Park having moved last summer. Goalkeeper Mike Lewis is beginning his 8th season with the club having moved directly from Aber in 2016 following four years in Ceredigion, which included a Welsh Cup Final and European campaign.
 
This will be the first opportunity for the Green Army to see this summer’s new signings in competitive action and Harry Owen, Sam Green, Owen Taylor, Akeem Hinds, Calum Huxley, Beau Cornish & Dave Jones will all be hoping to make their debuts in Black & Green.
 
Jenner Park is situated on Barry Road and the postcode for the stadium is CF62 9BG. There is no parking for visiting supporters at the stadium, but there is plenty of street parking available in the local area. Another season on the Black & Green rollercoaster starts here!
