Welsh Women's League (WWL)
Sunday 9th September 2018
Rhos FC Ladies 1 Aberystwyth Town Ladies 4
Aberystwyth Town Ladies made it two wins from two games thanks to goals from Helen Evans, Lisa Cowdy (2) and Kelly Thomas, writes Steven Brookes.
After a comfortable victory in their opening match, the Black and Greens were hoping to continue where they had left off and like the opening game they scored early on. Winger Helen Evans was the quickest to the ball, created a bit of space for herself and her fantastic strike from long range found the top corner of the net to give the visitors the perfect start. Aber increased their league not long after. Goalkeeper Ffion Ashman started the move with an excellent long ball forward towards 16 year old Lisa Cowdy and the youngster sprinted past the defence before beating the keeper at her near post. Caroline Cooper came close to making it three when her left footed strike from the edge of the area seemed to be heading into the top corner but unfortunately for the ex-Wales International, her shot was very well saved. Aber were creating chances but so were the home side, Ashman making a couple of good saves, and the lead was halved thanks to Zoe Parfitt when the Rhos forward was put through on goal and then found the bottom corner with her strike.
This was not to be the last goal of the half though. Caroline Cooper's corner was headed in by Kelly Thomas for her first goal of the new season to make the score 2-1 at the break.
Aber made it four in the second half. Once again it was Lisa Cowdy with the goal. The fast attacking player used her pace to beat the defender and this time her shot ended up inside the far corner of the net
Ffiona Evans and Lisa Cowdy both came close to increasing the lead but 4-1 is how it finished.
Aber Town Ladies's next match is at home to Barry Town United on Sunday 16th September and they'll hope they can continue their winning start to the campaign.
