Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the arrival of talented 19 year old left back Rhys Davies. Rhys, from Talgarth in mid Wales is a highly rated defender who joins the Club from National League side Hereford FC. Davies joined Shrewsbury Town in July 2017 straight from school, signing a two year scholarship with the Shrews, after playing Youth Football for Hereford FC. Whilst at Shrewsbury Rhys reportedly attracted the attention of Premier League and Championship Clubs, having spent time on trial at Southampton, where he impressed, as well as being watched by Bournemouth and Norwich. He also went out and starred on loan in non-league at an impressive level for his age, playing close on 30 games for National League North outfit Nuneaton Borough and National League South Chippenham Town. Davies joined Hereford in July 2019 from Shrewsbury Town and also spent time on loan with Merthyr Town last season, but will travel west for his football this coming season in the Cymru Premier. Rhys’ father Gareth was also a professional footballer for Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Reading and Swindon, and now works for the FAW Trust. Rhys told www.atfc.org.uk today: “I am really excited to be signing for Aberystwyth and playing in the Cymru Premier League, looking forward to getting started and showing everyone at Park Avenue what I can do and having a successful season.” Everyone at Park Avenue welcomes Rhys to Aberystwyth Town as we look forward to a successful 2020/21 season.
