Wyn: "We're Bitterly Disappointed"

Football is a game of contrasting emotions, writes Club Media Assistant Matthew Wallace. Despair can turn to ecstasy in the blink of an eye. Hope, optimism and despair play in parallel alongside one another in a cruel sycophantic land. With seconds of the game to go on Saturday Aber looked as if they would secure a point that would have made life difficult but not insurmountable ahead of the final game of the season against Bangor. But bad luck struck at the most cruel of moments. Kieran Lewis' shot struck the heel of Lee Surman to loop over a helpless Mike Lewis to leave the Seasiders' European hopes hanging by the most slender of threads.

"I'm not sure we've done enough to win the game. We're bitterly disappointed. We didn't start the game the best but we came and grew into the game well" Interim manager Wyn Thomas told Sgorio following the completion of the game.

After a slow start, Aber grew into the game and created the better of the chances during the first stanza. Following the break, tension filled the air. With so much at stake, both sides were afraid of making the mistake. Local winger Geoff Kellaway, who was a constant menace for the Old Gold defence all day, had Thomas' men's best chance of the match. 

"The improvement came from Geoff Kellaway and he's had a great chance in the second half which he was incredibly unlucky not to take."

Unfortunately, football is a game of fine margins and Aber are now left to lament two defeats against Carmarthen as this year's hopes of finishing 7th are over. 

"We're bitterly disappointed. Since the split we've done well and I've got an incredibly disappointed squad in the dressing room right now."

Aber now have to beat Bangor to secure an 8th spot and hope that Airbus repeat their own result against TNS in the Welsh Cup final in order to secure a playoff spot. Should TNS win, then this Saturday's game marks the end of the season for the Black and Greens. Now more than ever, the club and the side need a big crowd to get behind them to ensure the last ever game to be played on grass at Park Avenue is one to remember and yields the right result.
