Saturday 1st August Caersws 1 Aberystwyth Town 1 A youthful Black and Green side which ended with seven teenagers on the field earned a creditable draw at Caersws this afternoon, thanks to School Prefect Stuart Jones' second half headed goal - and Luke Sherbon made a very welcome return from injury to round off a pleasing day for Manager Ian Hughes. With Aber missing a number of first choice regulars the side had a young look from the start, with Jack Rimmer, Ryan Edwards and Tom Jones all earning starts after making an impression in previous games, and the visitors started the game showing some nice touches and creating chances from the off. Ross Stephens blasted an early chance over, onetime Black and Green Josh Hartrick fired wide for Caersws, and Craig Williams nearly picked out young Edwards at the far post but his effort was blocked. Will-o-the-wisp Darren Thomas had a superb game, and after an exciting run he also went close, but the n on 18 minutes Hartrick scored from a narrow angle on the right, and the hosts had the lead. Rimmer had a shot deflected, then home keeper Aaron Warwick had to deny Williams, Tom Jones, Stephens, Stuart Jones in succession as Aber piled on the pressure. The Bluebirds however always had a significant goal threat of their own, and Aber were indebted to Sion James for a brilliant saving tackle to deny Hartrick before Dane Griffiths went close with the final chance of an entertaining half. Aber continued to press after the break and seven minutes into the second half Stuart Jones rose like a salmon to head Williams' free kick home, and earn a richly deserved equaliser. The game opened up, with Hartrick having a shot saved only for Cledan Davies to go close with a shot, before Darren Thomas hit the post after another mesmerising run. The substitutions then kicked in, with Liam Lewis, Gwion Pugh Jones, Sion Evans, Gwion Evans and Alex Davies all appearing, but Sherbon's return from injury with 23 minutes to go was a major boost to the Black and Greens. Impressive home left back Will Evans was denied in a one on one, Stuart Jones again, and Liam Lewis went close for Aber, only for Hartrick to go close again, but Aber's young guns held firm and earned a draw which showed that Ian Hughes and Under 19s Manager Emyr Jones will have some exciting local talent to choose from in the coming season. Caersws' side also contained a number of promising youngsters, but Aber's players can feel pleased with a good day's work, and a number of them will have done their chances of being in contention for next Saturday's Pre Season Friendly at Porthmadog no harm at all. Kick off at Y Traeth will be 2.30pm, and with Port having beaten Bangor at Nantporth this afternoon, Ian Hughes knows his side will face another tough test next week. Comments are closed.
