Aberystwyth Town FC is proud to congratulate Oliver Fairbrother and Jack Rimmer, who have been selected to represent the Welsh Under 18 Academy Representative Side, following a Training Camp, held a few weeks ago near Cardiff.
The Side will play against The New Saints at the Venue, near Oswestry on Thursday 5th January, with a 2pm kick off, and Black and Green Supporters are encouraged to attend to lend their support to Olly and Jack. Both players represent Aber Town's Under 19s side in the Welsh Premier Development League (South), and have also appeared for the First Team this season. Ollie kept for goal for the First team in a pre season friendly at Caernarfon, and appeared in a cameo role as a striker in the Nathaniel MG Cup defeat at Haverfordwest, while Jack has made a number of sub appearances in midfield since returning from a loan spell at Penrhyncoch earlier in the season. The Club congratulates Oliver and Jack on being selected and wishes them all the best for the match in the New Year. Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Tuesday 20th December Aberystwyth Town 0 Bangor City 3 After a tight first sixty minutes, three Bangor goals in the final period of the game did for Aber Town at Park Avenue this evening. Damian Allen put a dagger in the Black and Greens hearts with goals on 60 and 69 minutes, and sub Rodrigo Blanco bagged a third on 83 minutes to rub salt into the wounds. On a chilly Winter's night unchanged Aber started the game looking solid at the back, as you might expect from a side which hadn't conceded in three and a half weeks. Bangor did control posession and showed some nice touches early on, without really hurting the hosts in any meaningful way. Aberaeron based Henry Jones went close early on before Chris Jones retorted for Aber with a curling shot just wide. Brayden Shaw was next to miss the target by Bangor, followed by Anthony Miley with a header. With Aber starting to find their feet the chances started to come and Joe Clarke played a great through ball to Geoiff Kellaway who was called offside with the goal gaping. Gary Roberts blasted over for Bangor but then the first save of the game came from Bangor's Connor Roberts to block Chris Jones' free kick. Henry Jones had the last chance of the half but with the hosts seemingly having weathered the storm, looking composed and defending well most Aber fans were pleased with a 0-0 half time score. Shaw saw a shot turned round the corner by Chris Mullock after the break and then at the other end Luke Borrelli was played clean through only to be denied by a huge Connor Roberts save. At this point the game was looking rather cagey with both sides trying to enforce the one mistake which looked likely to swing the game, and alas, when Aber lost posession on the hour the Citizens worked the way into the area and when Jones was denied Allen popped up at the far post to open the scoring. Michael Higden headed wide then Henry Jones's sublime right footed volley brought an equally impressive right handed save from Mullock round the post. However, from the resultant corner Allen sent in a cross cum shot from the left wing which evaded everyone and curled into the far corner for two nil. In repsonse Chirs Jones played a suiblime crossfield ball to sub Kostya Georgievsky, but his shot from the left wing was again parried by Roberts, and Bangor survived again. Mullock made another good save to deny Blanco but then the Brazilian slid in the near channel and blasted the ball high into the roof of the net for the third, and the game was well and truly gone. Abedr sub Jack Rimmer found Borrelli inside the area, but his shot glanced inches wide and the game ended, rather harshly for Aber, at 0-3. A heavy defeat was tough to take this evening for Aber who did well for sixty minutes, but it does not constitute a mortal blow, and attention now turns to the Christmas double header against keen local rivals Newtown, starting on Boxing Day at Park Avenue (ko 1.30pm). Don't stop believing in the Black and Greens! Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Tuesday 20th December (ko 8pm) Aberystwyth Town v Bangor City Following five goals, two clean sheets and two wins in a row things are looking pretty rosy in the garden at Aberystwyth Town at the moment – and things could get even better on Tuesday evening as Bangor City are the latest visitors to the WPL’s best attended ground, Park Avenue. The Black and Greens’ Squad will naturally be on a high after Friday’s strong performance in winning 3-0 at Cefn Driuds, and a lively and enjoyable bus journey home after the game demonstrated their togetherness as much as the battling performance. Goals from Geoff Kellaway, Luke Borrelli and Kostya Georgievsky allied to Chris Mullock's penalty save made the difference on the night, but to put Friday’s victory into some context, both Connah’s Quay and Bala failed to win at the Rock, and it took a last minute winner for Bangor to take all three points earlier in the season – so a 3-0 win was really above par. What is more, Sam Rodon returns from suspension on Tuesday to bolster the squad and Town also hope Ricky Watts is able to return to the Squad from compassionate leave. Llandudno’s defeat yesterday to Bala has opened the doors of destiny for Aber, and means they will be in sixth place in the Dafabet WPL if they win their two games in hand, the first of which is on Tuesday. Bangor City have had a change of manager in the past few weeks and snatched a win with a last minute winner at home to lowly Airbus yesterday, but for Black and Greens fans Tuesday night is all about Matthew Bishop’s exciting squad and what they can do to keep their record going through the most definitive time of the season. Bishop told Aber Town’s Youtube Channel: “Psychologically it’s a big win for us, and we need to carry it through to the next five games. The fact that we won ugly (on Friday) is really important because it shows the players can do it." Looking forward to Tuesday Town’s Manager said: “We’re going to have a really tough game against Bangor with their new manager and it’s going to be a good challenge for us as a group.” Kick off under the temporary floodlights is at the slightly later time of 8pm, and with the WPL’s two best supported teams going head to head a memorable occasion is guaranteed. Admission is £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions and £1 fir Kids, Give yourself an early Christmas present and come along. Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Friday 16th December Cefn Druids 0 Aberystwyth Town 3 Aberystwyth Town pulled out a big performance at a vital time of the season to earn a crucial three points at The Rock this evening, as a strong defensive display allied to impressive strikes from Geoff Kellaway, Luke Borrelli and Kostya Georgievsky earned all three points. The game started out with both sides trying to play the ball around on the excellent 3g surface, and Aber showing some nice touches without quite breaking through. Borrelli picked out Kurtis March who brought a first save of the game from Mike Jones, but then on the quarter hour a sweet touch from Joe Clarke on the edge of the area picked out Kellaway, who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal for the perfect start. Jones was then out quickly to deny Chris Jones, and then March was denied by the keeper again who redeemed himself for an earlier error. Druids had mostly threatened from long throws and corners, but on 22 minutes Steve Blenkinsop was fouled in the area and a penalty was awarded to the hosts. Time for ex Druids Legend Chris Mullock to break his old club’s heart as he pulled off a superb left handed save to deny Mike Pritchard and prevent a significant swing in the game’s momentum. The Druids kept pressing and although Aber’s Will Bell was looking confident, heading clear time after time, marvellous Mullock had to make further saves to deny Fisnik Hajdari, Naim Arsan and Stuart Cook and protect the lead. Aber remained a threat on the break but ended the half glad to be in the lead after surviving a good spell from the hosts. Druids went close with a far post header just after the break but down the other end Kellaway narrowly missed the target with a cute effort and the scene was set for an entertaining but nervy 45. Dogged defending from Aber prevented too many clear cut chances with Dan Alfei looking assured and Luke Sherbon creating a permanent shield in front of the back four. Mullock then blocked Pritchard again in a one on one before Cook fired wide. A break in play saw Aber subs Georgievsky and Blake Davies get their chance and Davies almost played in the hard working Borrelli with an early cross. With Druids shots going askew, the scene was set for Aber to put the game to bed and on 79 minutes a beautiful dinked ball from Luke Sherbon played in Borrelli, who went on to delight his team mates by scoring low under Jones for a goal of huge significance, earned after a night of tireless pressing and harrying from the lone front man. Mullock pulled off yet another great left handed save to deny Corey Roper, and stopped Kyle Parle’s effort for good measure with the game entering four minutes of injury time. Then in the last of those minutes Georgievsky was picked out by a great crossfield ball from Alfei and the Swansea super sub darted down the left wing before hitting the far corner of the net with a stunning rising drive which put the icing on the cake. This victory, earned on the foundations of a performance full of defensive grit and desire, could yet prove to be hugely significant in Aber’s season, and sets up Tuesday night’s Dafabet WPL match at home to Bangor City beautifully. If you missed us on Black Friday try Green Tuesday instead! Kick off is at 8pm. Aberystwyth Town's First Team Players are organising a Race Night - and you are invited.
The Race Night will be held in the John Charles Lounge after Aber Town's Dafabet Welsh Premier League home match against Newtown at Park Avenue on Boxing Day December 26th, and will start after the game at approximately 4pm. All Supporters, Committee members, Directors and other Club members are invited to take part! Dafabet Welsh Premier League Friday 16th December (ko 7.45pm) Cefn Druids v Aberystwyth Town Matthew Bishop's Black and Greens can't wait to get going again as their Welsh Premier League campaign kicks back in on Friday night at the Rock, the dramatic home of Cefn Druids. The weather has really put a spanner in the works over the last month, as 94mph winds in Aberystwyth and a hard freeze in the Rhondda have lead to two of Aber's last three league games being called off. So after playing one single league game in 33 days, Aber supporters will be delighted to gorge over Christmas and New Year on four games in 15 days. The Team should certainly be fresh and will be in great spirits after beating Holywell Town 2-0 in a convincing Welsh Cup display two weeks ago, thanks to goals from Kurtis March and Luke Borrelli. Cefn Druids will be tough opponents, particularly at the Rock where they have held high flying Connah's Quay and Bala Town this season, and with Huw Griffiths' sides known for their defensive organisation, Aber will have to work hard to break down the resolute Druids. The Seasiders however will have been boosted by results elsewhere in the Welsh Prem since they downed tools. Town now are six points short of sixth position but with two games in hand on Llandudno, Aber's destiny is in their own hands once again. If you choose to choose a Black and Green Friday over a Black Friday the Coach leaves Park Avenue at 4pm and a return trip will cost just £10. Christmas Jumpers welcome! |
