Mae’n bleser gan Glwb Pêl-droed Aberystwyth gyhoeddi bod y blaenwr Calum Huxley wedi ymuno â'r clwb cyn tymor Uwch Gynghrair Cymru JD 2023/24! Yn flaenorol ar lyfrau Wrecsam a Sheffield Wednesday, mae Calum yn ymuno â'r clwb wedi cyfnodau byr o amgylch clybiau cynghrair Cymru a Lloegr.
Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of forward Calum Huxley ahead of the 2023/24 JD Cymru Premier season! Formerly on the books at Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday, Calum joins the Seasiders after brief stints around the Welsh and English leagues. Aberystwyth Town FC has reached a watershed in its proud 139 year history and volunteer members of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee have been very disappointed by the FAW’s decision to restrict the Club’s Academy to four age groups only, namely Under 12s, 13s, 15s and 19s. This decision has potentially left a significant gap in the availability of football coaching of children and youngsters in Mid-Wales. Our Club, like several other Welsh clubs, mounted a vigorous appeal against the FAW’s decision but unfortunately all of these appeals were rejected by the FAW.
What is the future of coaching of age bands Under 8s to 11s: Fortunately, Aberystwyth and district is blessed with a thriving Junior League and all children in this age group will continue to represent clubs in the League. In addition however, the Club will liaise both with the FAW and the Junior League about the pathway for the area’s talented players. The Club will, in any event, be seeking to regain Category B Pre-Academy status for season 24/25. What is the future of coaching at age groups Under 14 and 16? The theory behind the FAW’s decision is that players in these age bands will help to bolster performances in the Under 15 and Under 19 teams respectively. This is critical as the FAW has confirmed that, provided the approved Academy teams perform well in season 23/24, they will consider upgrading the Academy to Category B status in 24/25, and even if that application is unsuccessful and the Club remains Category C, the FAW will consider adding a further age group for season 24/25. How does the FAW’s decision affect the Club financially? Around 2014, the FAW persuaded the Club to develop its 3G facility (at an eventual cost of approximately £650K) on the premise that the pitch hire charges engendered would enable the Club to remain self-sufficient and thereby remain in the Welsh Premier League (Aberystwyth and Newtown are the only clubs to have been ever-present in the (now) Cymru Premier since its inception in 1992). Due to stringent FAW requirements, the majority user of the 3G pitch has been by the Club’s Academy and Pre-Academy teams. The costs of maintaining the pitch, providing floodlighting (the Club will this month be converting in full to LED at a cost in excess of £50K), and paying into a sinking fund to replace the “carpet” in due course have increased exponentially over the last eight years. However, the Academy’s ability to contribute to such costs has now been removed by the FAW’s decision to restrict the Club’s Academy status to Category C which has thereby reduced the FIFA funding to the Club to nil. The Club is now actively seeking local sponsors to replace the FIFA funding. What is the Club’s next steps? Four highly-qualified and experienced coaches -- Bari Morgan, Matthew Bishop, Dave Owen and Antonio Corbisiero -- will lead on the Academy teams. Discussions with the Junior League and FAW concerning aftercare and provision for Under 8 to 11s have commenced and are ongoing and trials for all Academy teams will take place later this month. Onward and upward! Statement Ends Credit: TNS FC Aberystwyth Town are delighted to welcome Beau Cornish to the club for the 2023/24 JD Cymru Premier season. Having recently departed The New Saints, the 21-year-old central midfielder makes a permanent move to Park Avenue.
Libby Isaac and Bethan "Cheeks" Roberts were the big winners at the Aberystwyth Town Women end-of-season awards. Coaches and players picked out those they felt deserved recognition for their efforts during the season - and the trophies were awarded at a lunch at Harry's Bar in Aberystwyth on Saturday. Isaac - unable to attend the ceremony - was named players' player of the year. Usually a forward, she shifted to defence midway through the campaign after injury ravaged the backline, and proved herself a classy centre-half as well as a major attacking threat. Midfielder Roberts, the manager's player of the year, was reliably consistent all season, and an instrumental part of the Seasiders' run to the semi-finals of the FAW Women's Cup and the Genero Adran Trophy. Emily Thomas - celebrating her 19th birthday on the day of the awards - picked up two trophies, young player of the year and sharing top scorer with Amy Jenkins. The team's most improved player award went to forward Jess Baker. Modlen Gwynne and Ella Thomas, who made their first-team debuts as 15-year-olds this season, picked up prizes for their contributions to the under-19s. Credit: Football Association of Wales Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the acquisition of goalkeeper Dave Jones for the 2023/24 JD Cymru Premier season. A veteran of the Top-Flight with over 330 league appearances as a Robin and multiple European campaigns, 33-year-old Dave makes the move across Mid Wales to become a Seasider!
Following his departure from Shrewsbury Town as a youth player, Dave made his first league start with Newtown AFC at just 17 years old in 2007. He made 60 appearances for The Robins before spells with neighbours Welshpool Town and Caersws - returning to Latham Park in 2014. Dave thereafter held the No.1 shirt until his recent departure in May 2023. During his spell, Dave amassed 10 continental appearances thanks to qualifying campaigns in the 2015/16 Europa League, and 2021/22 & 2022/23 European Conference Leagues - progressing through the 1st Round on two occasions, beating Valletta in 2015 and HB Torshavn in 2022. During their most recent campaign, Dave made a save in a penalty shootout at TNS' Park Hall as The Robins went on to win 6-3 and progress to face Spartak Trnava in the 2nd Round. Now switching Powys for Ceredigion, Dave makes his first move in almost 10 years in search of a new challenge. Dave told us: "Aber is a big club with a big history and I’ve always enjoyed playing at Park Avenue - I’m now looking forward to playing there every week! After speaking to Taff, he made my decision easy. He's done a good job since coming in and managed to keep the club in the league where it belongs, so hopefully this season we can push on from that and climb the table. I had some great times at Newtown and have been privileged to experience Europe so hopefully I can bring that experience with me! I have already played with a few of the lads over the years and am looking forward to linking up with them again. Here’s to a new chapter, where I can start enjoying my football again!" Taff commented: "Dave is a very established goalkeeper in the Cymru Premier whose performances have been consistent for so many seasons. His experience will be invaluable to us, giving confidence to the rest of the players in the squad. He's had interest from other teams in the league, but has chosen to join us - testament to the way we performed in the second half of last season. He is an excellent addition and strengthens our squad moving into the new season." Croeso i Geredigion, Dave! |
