Seamus was born in Belfast but retains close links to North Wales having played 32 times for Wrexham in 1983/4, followed by 17 appearances for Tranmere over the subsequent two years. Heath has since developed a wealth of Coaching experience in Northern Ireland, working with Glenavon, Kilmore Recreation, the Northern Ireland Under 19s side, Knockbreda Under 20s and Annagh United in the Northern Irish First Division. The Club thanks Seamus for his contribution and everyone at Aberystwyth Town FC wishes him a full recovery and a long career in football ahead! Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce that defenders Alan Goodall and Tom Evans have signed for the club ahead of the start of the JD Welsh Premier League season at home to Llandudno on Friday evening.
Goodall can play in a central defensive or left back role, and brings a wealth of football league experience to Town's youthful side. He began his footballing journey at Bangor City back in 2001, playing a total of 91 games (scoring 10 goals) and making the Welsh Premier League Team of the Season back in 2004. Since then, he's made over 300 appearances in the Football League with Rochdale, Stockport County, Chesterfield, Luton Town, Grimsby Town and most recently Morecambe - scoring 20 goals in the process. He spent the 2016/17 season at Altrincham of the National League North, and will be a valuable addition to Aber's squad for the forthcoming season. Local youngster Tom Evans is an attacking full back who can play on the left or right side - as demonstrated in Aber's most recent friendly against Neston Nomads. Tom played a significant part in Bari Morgan's u19's Welsh Premier Development League winning squad last season, creating a number of goal scoring opportunities from the right back position. He's spent time playing for Bow Street in recent seasons, but has now committed to the black and greens by signing on for the 2018/19 JD Welsh Premier League season. Everyone at the club is delighted to welcome both Alan and Tom to Park Avenue, and hope to see both players in action in the JD Welsh Premier League over the coming weeks Aberystwyth University to sponsor Aberystwyth Town FC Aberystwyth University will be the principal sponsor of Aberystwyth Town Football Club for the 2018-19 season. Aberystwyth Town ended their pre-season preparations on a high Saturday afternoon after another convincing away performance and 3-0 victory at West Cheshire outfit Neston Nomads in Ellesmere Port. Goals from Joe Phillips (8, 65) and Declan Walker (35) were enough to see Aber to victory on a warm afternoon in Cheshire, as the black and greens now turn their attentions to Friday's JD Welsh Premier League opener against Llandudno at Park Avenue.
Aber started the game with a good tempo and intensity, with Declan Walker and Alec Williams spraying the ball around in midfield and Joe Phillips and new signing Ryan Edwards causing problems down either flank. And within just 8 minutes, they found the opening goal as Joe Phillips raced through on goal before sliding the ball under the home 'keeper's body to make it 1-0. The visitors continued to dominate for large periods throughout the opening 30 minutes, as Phillips almost grabbed his second with a flicked header, before Nashawn Blake and Rio Ahmadi both saw their efforts sail inches wide of the post. Declan Walker stung the palms of the goalkeeper with a couple of rasping long range efforts, but he wasn't to be denied on the third time of trying, as Ahmadi and Wes Baynes produced some neat interplay down the right flank before Ryan Edwards was on hand at the back post to square the ball to Walker for an easy tap-in and 2-0. In truth, Aber could have been out of sight before half time, but the hosts were putting up a spirited performance - only being denied clear goalscoring opportunities by the impressive central defensive pairing of Lee Jenkins and Ryan Wollacott. The second half began with a similar pattern to the first, with Geoff Kellaway being introduced in place of youngster Tom Evans, who was again impressive in the left back position. Rio Ahmadi was first to test the goalkeeper as his lofted effort was well saved, before Ryan Edwards played in the front man on the right hand side of the penalty area, only to be denied by the 'keeper once more. On 65 minutes however, Aber did extend their lead as Joe Phillips strode forwards from midfield before unleashing a wonderful left-footed strike into the bottom corner of the net for 3-0. Soon after, it was almost four as Geoff Kellaway scooped his close-range effort over the crossbar, before he saw his brilliant glancing header disallowed for offside. Despite Aber's dominance, Neston continued to battle and were only denied a consolation goal by Chris Mullock, who made an excellent low stop to deny the Nomads' striker - a brilliant save considering the Aber 'keeper hadn't been called into action for much of the game. Starman Joe Phillips almost grabbed his hat-trick late on as his long range effort skimmed the post on it's way wide, but nevertheless it was another convincing away performance from the black and greens ahead of the start of the 2018/19 JD Welsh Premier League season. Aber now turn their attentions to next Friday's home JD Welsh Premier League opener with Llandudno in a 7:45 p.m kick off at Park Avenue. Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Ryan Edwards. Ryan joins the club after leaving Llandudno in June, and adds a wealth of experience to Aber's squad having previously played in the Welsh Premier League for The New Saints, Connah's Quay Nomads, Cefn Druids, Bala Town and Airbus UK Broughton. Ryan, who hails from Northop, is a pacey and skilful attacking midfielder who can play anywhere across the midfield or front line. He started his career with Connah's Quay Nomads back in 2011, coming through the ranks with the Nomads' academy and forging his way into the first team by the 2013/14 season. Having excelled at first team level, Ryan's brilliant form caught they eye of The New Saints, who opted to sign the midfielder on a full time contract in January 2014. Regarded as one of the best young prospects in the league, Ryan played a pivotal role in The New Saints' world record breaking 27 consecutive league victories during the 2016/17 season, before signing for Bala Town in 2017 where he made 12 appearances for the Lakesiders. Ryan also spent a period on loan with Airbus UK Broughton in late 2017, before joining Llandudno ahead of the 2017/18 season - where he made a total of 14 appearances. Despite being just 24 years old, Ryan has already made 99 JD Welsh Premier League appearances, scoring 10 goals in the process. Known for being a great athlete and having an excellent work rate, Ryan is sure to become a fans favourite at Park Avenue in no time. Aber's supporters can see a glimpse of Ryan's talent by watching his superb Goal of the Month for Connah's Quay Nomads during his breakthrough season in the league here. Everyone at the club would like to extend a warm welcome to Ryan, and he'll be straight into the thick of the action as Town travel to face Neston Nomads in their final pre-season fixture ahead of the start of the new season tomorrow afternoon. |
